Next meeting on Saturday 23rd February - our cushion-making lives again!

Hello everyone. Our next meeting date is nearly upon us, and after the unfortunate cancellation of our January meeting and workshop (due to that random one-day only snowstorm!) we have decided to move the planned cushion-making to our next meeting day of Saturday 23rd February. It seemed a popular choice, and we were ready to go with a supply of cushion pads and fabrics, so it makes sense! Then, our programme of events for 2013 will continue as planned from March onwards (you can view the diary by clicking the link in the right sidebar). We may revisit the decoupage and collage-making that was originally planned for February in the future.

So... the same information given previously about the workshop still applies. It will cost £5 for WI members and £8 for non-members. We will be making simple 'envelope' style cushion covers, with the option to add embellishment or try more advanced techniques if you wish, so please have a think about what you would really like to make, if you get a chance. Look at books, magazines or go online for inspiration... have fun shopping for fabrics and trimmings... it's having the chance to design and make something that's uniquely yours that makes it all the more enjoyable!

1. Bring your own fabric, if you can. (And of course bring anything special you'd like to add to your cushion - e.g. ribbons, buttons, threads for embroidery or scraps for applique....) Fabric-wise, you'll need 1/2 a metre minimum to make one cushion cover. There will be some fabric available to purchase on the day too, so don't worry if you can't get to the shops.

2. Basic, inexpensive cushion pads will be available to buy on the day. They are the cheapest Ikea pads and are £1.85. We've already bought some for those who let us know they'd like one last time, so if you'll be a newcomer to our February event, let us know if you'll need one supplying. If you'd like something a tad more fancy or plush, you can bring your own cushion pad - just remember it needs to be 50cm square.

3. If you have a sewing machine of your own, please bring it along. There will be several machines available on the day, but the more machines we have, the quicker our cushions will be made!

4. We will supply threads and other equipment, but if you have your own sewing kit please do bring it.

We do hope to see you on the 23rd of February - after Christmas and our unplanned 'break' in January, it feels like a long time since we've all got together! Please let us know if you can make it by leaving a comment in reply to this post, or by responding to one of Debbie's text or email reminders. (I've also heard a rumour that we may soon have a Facebook page!)

See you soon xx

p.s. we will be starting our meeting at 11am, to be followed by our usual shared lunch. If you're coming to the cushion-making workshop only, please arrive by 12.30pm.
